We offer for your consideration this Antique English pocket watch. This pocket watch is Operational. This pocket watch is engraved on the watch works Kemp & Wilcox, Wolverhampton.

Wolverhampton being a major industrial center in the English midlands. We are unsure of the movement maker.

The closest we can date this timepiece too, is around the mid to late 1890s. It is a crown wind, Button set works set in a sterling Silver case. It may have up to 15 jewels (ruby) The balance. Ruby and the other jewels have screw set chatons. The visible full plate is engraved " Kemp & Wilcox Wolverhampton ", and carries the serial number "15397".

The dial is white porcelain enamel with a sunk sweep second hand dial. The dial is plain, carrying no badge, branding, or name. The dial is in very good condition. The hands are very fine, gold in color, elongated spade style. The numerals marking the hours are roman. The second dial is marked with arabic numerals at ten second intervals.

The case carries London hallmarks, The Lion passant and the Leopards head indicate that the case is Sterling Silver. The hallmarks appear stamped inside the back of the case, and on the inside of the cuvette cover. The "S" in the shield shape indicates that it was produced in 1893. We have been unable to put a name or maker to the "AB" stamp on the inside back.

The serial number stamped on the case is "153972" which matches the. The bail mount is stamped with "CH" and the Lion passant, perhaps this part of the case was created by The Charles Hougham Company, a known silversmith of the time. The total weight of this watch is 112.95 grams. What I always find impressive, is that these delicate machines often still function beautifully after over 128 years.

This one is still keeping time, but runs a bit fast. If you are a horologist who loves to collect and maintain these amazing little machines, this pocket watch will be a fine addition to your collection.
