The maker's mark "RS" for Ralph Samuel, a watch case maker registered as working from Wood Street, Liverpool, the Lion Passant sterling silver mark, the Chester town mark and the date letter "R" for 1855/56. It is in good overall condition for its age, with only some minor indents to the rear. There is a minor issue with the front cover in that it doesn't snap shut tightly and there is a very slight gap (see photo). It does however, remain in place. The white enamel dial is in very good condition.
It has the hours in Roman numerals and a sub-seconds dial at six o'clock. It is signed Improved Patent Lever. The good quality, fusee, lever movement is in excellent working order. The balance cock is very nicely engraved and unusually this pattern is continued on the dust cover.
The movement signed by the maker, E Graham, Bishop Auckland. It is key wound and set with the key provided. The watch measures 52mm in diameter. The weight is 136.1g. Overall, this is a very good example, it would make a lovely addition to any collection.
